This series of paintings explore a sense of longing for fragments of time and place that are just beyond my reach. Overlapping and disjointed memories of places that are appearing and disappearing, fluctuating between distant and forgotten.
Iām interested in the landscapes of the in-between. Forgotten places that are seen as edges, or no-mans lands, places usually avoided, or passed through quickly, to get somewhere else. Looking for the gap in the fence and finding an absence of presence.
Completed between 2018 and 2024, these are paintings on top of paintings, layers of awkward travel and confused endings, showing echoes or traces of misplaced conclusions and ambiguous meaning. There is a sense of the unknown, the misplaced, the disjointed, and the not quite graspable.
